Professional Biography

For nearly 20 years, Jerry L. Butler has been a trial lawyer focusing on complex commercial, insurance coverage, banking and finance, and tort litigation.  Mr. Butler has extensive first-chair trial, appellate, arbitration and mediation experience involving varied issues including banking and creditors' rights, complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage/bad faith, product liability, toxic tort, medical malpractice, transportation and workplace safety.  He spent the first three years’ of his law practice in a mid-sized insurance defense firm trying numerous jury and non-jury cases, taking hundreds of depositions and handling a very large discovery and motion practice.  Mr. Butler went on to spend the next thirteen years at one of the largest firms in Texas representing international companies, national banks, as well as large and mid-sized regional companies in complex commercial, insurance, banking and employment litigation matters.  During that time, he mediated and arbitrated numerous cases.  He often serves as outside general counsel for mid-sized or small regional or local companies, advising clients on matters such as insurance coverage and plans, litigation avoidance, workers compensation non-subscriber issues, workplace injury and employment issues. 

Mr. Butler is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas.  Mr. Butler is licensed in Texas, having graduated from Baylor Law School.  He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Dallas Bar Association and Dallas A&M Club.
