Personal Biography

Rebecca has several passions including her commitment to serving her community.  She is a member of the Halo Society, which was created in response to the needs to match foster children with necessity items needed to successfully transition to a new, safe environment.  Rebecca is also a member of the Junior Women’s Club of Fort Worth.

Her other passion is her love for the law.  As one of only two 2007 U.S. Pegasus Scholars, Rebecca was afforded a rare opportunity to observe the British legal system from the inside as an honorary member of England’s four Inns of Court.  She spent six weeks in London in chambers with well-regarded barristers.   Rebecca was also hosted by judges across many levels of the judiciary in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

In 2000, she was invited to serve as Visiting Scholar, National University of Rwanda where she assisted with an internationally sponsored project designed to increase the number of English speaking lawyers in Rwanda.  Rebecca’s responsibilities included working with law students individually on their dissertations.  She helped students refine topics, tutored basic legal research and writing, edited papers, and sat on panels that examined and scored dissertations.

The same year, she was awarded a Young Fellowship by SMU.  Rebecca was selected by the Attorney General of Rwanda to spend three months in Kigali, Rwanda assisting with an international project to implement a case management system to expedite the prosecution of genocide suspects.  Other functions included performing legal research and drafting memoranda.  All work was undertaken under the direct supervision of the Attorney General.
